Capt. Mervyn J. Pinto, MFG
President, CEO and Director

  • Chief Executive Officer of Minaean from August 2000 to present;

  • President of Comstar Global Enterprises Inc. from August 1997 to August 2000;

  • President of Normar Pacific Marine Inc. (Normar), a private shipping group, from September 1994 to August 1997.

Captain Pinto has over twenty-five years of experience in shipping and international trade. He started his business career by setting up a marine surveying and consultancy company. In 1985, Captain Pinto acquired a majority share holding in Mercator Shipping, a ship owning and operating company located in Bombay, India, and took over as Chairman and Managing Director.

Notable achievements include: securing a contract with the Oil and Natural Gas Commission in Bombay, India; pioneering Inland Waterways in Gujrat, India; the conversion operation of fish factory vessels; and a joint venture operation with Norpol of Norway which resulted in the acquisition and dispatch of MT Al Waasit to the Persian Gulf for oil clean up operations immediately following the 1991 Gulf War. As President of Normar, the company owned and operated 7 vessels comprising of tankers and bulk carriers.

Mr. Garg post-graduated out of the most prestigious Business School in India (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) with an MBA degree. He attained his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering in the Indian Institute of Technology at Bharat Hindi University, Banaras, an.;other very prestigious institute. In the span of his career Mr. Garg has an extensive 25 year experience in starting, restarting and managing a diversified set of businesses as profit center heads.

Henry completed his studies in Civil Engineering Technology in Ontario, Canada. He was an “Associate Member” of the Institution of Engineers, Australia and a “Member” of the Society of Engineering Associates, Australia.

Experienced project superintendent from Brunei before starting own Construction Company. Involved in large projects as in the building of palaces for His Highness of Brunei, there onwards construction of low –cost housing projects; supply and installation of architectural curtain walls for medium raise buildings. Henry’s work also involved in cost estimation, planning, negotiations, quality control, safety and overall project management.


Salman Sayeed, Advisor – Technical and Business Development

Mr. Sayeed completed his engineering studies in India and first trained as an architectural apprentice before moving to Qatar in the Middle East. There he established and ran an engineering consultancy firm for several years before joining the country's PTT organization as the Head for Buildings and Power Services. He brings over 26 years of engineering and project management experience over a wide range of projects in India, the Middle East and Canada. In the recent past his experience has been in the specialized area of implementing innovative construction technologies in developing countries and new markets.

Hari B. Varshney, FCA
Chairman and Director

Mr. Varshney is President of Varshney Capital Corp., a merchant banking and venture capital firm. Over the past 17 years, Mr. Varshney has been a director or officer of several public companies trading on various North American exchanges.  During this period, he has been involved in raising over $150 million for various venture capital projects around the world.

Mr. Varshney received a Bachelor of Commerce degree (1960) and a Masters  of Commerce degree (1962) from Agra University in India and received his designation (1971) as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.

Mr. Varshney has supported various charitable projects in Canada and abroad.  He is currently a director and vice chairman of St. Paul's Hospital Foundation (Vancouver, B.C.), Canada India Village Aid Association (CIVA), the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Varshney Family Charitable Foundation.

Keith Scott, CGA

  • Chief Financial Officer of Minaean from April 2001 to present;

  • Retired from May 1998 to April 2001;

  • Senior Vice President International, Certified General Accountants Association of Canada, January 1988 to May 1998.

Mr. Scott is a graduate of the Canadian Forces College in Toronto.  Major areas of study included Business Management and Political Science.  He achieved the professional account designation of Certified General Accountant (CGA) in 1971 through studies at Carleton University in Ottawa. 

Mr. Scott served with distinction as a pilot and senior staff officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force.  He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. 

Mr. Scott held a number of volunteer positions with the CGA Association including President of the Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario and Chairman of the CGA-Canada education committee. 

He recently completed studies in International Trade at the British Columbia Institute for Studies in International Trade (BCISIT) and has gained a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation.
 

Peeyush K. Varshney, LLB

Peeyush Varshney

Mr. Varshney graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Finance) in 1989 and graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Laws, also from the University of British Columbia.

He articled at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy, Vancouver, B.C., in 1993/1994 and has been a member of the Law Society of British Columbia since September 1994.  Mr. Varshney worked as an associate lawyer at the law firm of Campney & Murphy, Vancouver, B.C., from September 1994 to July 1996, primarily in corporate and securities law. 

Mr. Varshney was a principal of the Varshney Chowdhry Group from August 1996 to December 1999. Since January 2000, Mr. Varshney has been a principal of Varshney Capital Corp., a corporate finance and venture capital firm. He is currently a director or officer of several public companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. He also serves as a director of the Varshney Family Charitable Foundation.
